The Cowardice of Christians

Christians have become cowards, a shame on Christianity and on Christ. Christians have became the false witnesses to God's word. They do not confess it, they do not dare to say it, proclaim it, or defend it. Therefore, even as largest religious population in the world, Christians have become strangers in their own countries because they made God a stranger in the hearts. They became like sheep in the world where they beg for rights, for respect and for consideration from others. Their shepherds betrayed them, their politicians humiliated them; the media, government, and mainstream society continue to humiliate them by rejecting God in the very same public institutions where they send their children to learn and which survive through the taxes of their hard work.

They became cowards because every year, they dare not say a word of truth in defending their values, tradition and feasts to the point where they are afraid and ashamed of wishing 'Merry Christmas.' They live in fear of hurting others’ feelings, but they neither fear nor care about hurting the feelings of their own savior. The world implanted in them and their culture what itself deems to be 'politically right,' and Christians have so naively accepted what the world wanted rather than what God wanted.

Retailers, the commercial industry, and the mass media continue to discriminate against Christians, commercializing their feasts and showing no respect, and yet, Christians fail to raise their voices and ask for what is rightly theirs. The world told them that not everyone is Christian, thus they cannot use Christian expressions in stores decoration, but wait a minute...not everyone is Jewish, but in the same stores you see signs of Happy Hanukkah, and not everyone is Muslim, but you see signs saying Happy Eid. Doesn’t it upset Christians that all other religions, including atheists, are offered respect and protection in schools and universities more so than Christians? Christians are not allowed to mention Christ's name or sing Christmas songs without some form of backlash. Even the Christmas tree became the tree of fortune. Just about everything that society used to consider wrong and unhealthy has become acceptable in our country, except mentioning the name of Christ or His blessed feast.

Would you like to know why this has happened? This is a result of Christians’ cowardice. Inside their churches and temples, they jump and scream “Hallelujah, Christ is Lord and Master,” but when they leave their churches, they act like lost sheep, like cowards. They are afraid to hurt people's feelings if they show their cross or their Christian faith, but they do not care to hurt the dignity of their Lord who said “Go therefore and make disciplines of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Mathew 28:19-20); and who said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Yes, they are cowards. A cup of coffee for them from Starbucks is more important than the dignity of Christ, and God's commandment which says that “For whomever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's and of the holy angels” (Luke 9:26). They run to Starbucks, Walmart, target, wegmans .....and other stores which continuously secularizing Christmas, the feast of Christ's birth, but Christians keep coming back for more and to countless other companies and brand chains.

Why economically support these people who are constantly offended by your expression of faith? Why do they get offended when we say Merry Christmas? How are we offending them? Is it because we are wishing them peace on earth and joy to their hearts? Why are they bothered?

They are bothered because it reminds them of Christ who came for the salvation of mankind.

This hate and blatant bigotry against Christianity exists because the world rejected Christ and continues to reject him as it seeks to worship another god; money, sex, and the self. Are we from the world, or are we the witnesses of the truth in the world? If we are the 70% who live in a democratic republic, where is the democracy? Where is the republic? Why is the majority not expressing its faith? Does the constitution not defend their right to freedom of religion? It does, and they must use it.

These people and companies, and their social engineering constituents, are using their right to freedom of speech to make sure you cannot use yours. That is unacceptable. Let us speak a language they understand, the language of money and interest, since it is the only language they know. In other words, let us stop going to their stores. The mass media and commercialized industry that treats us and our feasts with disrespect and mockery us does not deserve another cent from our wallets.

This requires courage, and Christians have become cowards because they do not know Christ as they should, nor the holy Fathers of the Church who accepted gruesome death after gruesome death as the price for their faith.

Christians, you must remember; life without dignity has no meaning. Remember who you are, and who your God is, and who your forefathers are, those who challenged emperors, kings, great heresies, great suffering, death itself, and all manner of onslaught against them and the faith, to witness the One who died on the cross, for their salvation, your salvation, for the salvation of your children, and that of the world.

Teach your children what courage, manhood and womanhood are. Do not let this Christmas go by like those before. If the world wants a war, based on their bigotry and hatred against us and our Lord, let us declare another war based on love, wisdom, and courage. Wherever we go, let us proclaim that Christ is born and let us wish a Merry Christmas to everyone, Let us decorate our homes with lights. Let us decorate our hearts with Christ’s light, with courage and love for God first and our neighbor second.

The Lord said to be meek like a lamb, gentle like doves, but he also said also be wise like serpents. We are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. No one can insult us for mistakes some people in the Church commit. Those people whoever they were, or are, do not represent Christianity. If they did, they would not have hurt the Church of Christ and Her reputation. The Church is the bride of Christ; She is pure and perfect. Christians could be bad, but Christianity, never, for the faith remains preserved.

Christians: rise like your Lord rose from the tomb. Rise from your death to life, from shame to dignity. Be, in this coming feast, the presence of the angels in this darkened society and illuminate, without fear or cowardice, by saying loudly “Merry Christmas” to everyone, declaring that Christ is born, Hallelujah! Whether they like it or not, it is a Merry Christmas, and because it is merry, we repeat with the angels; “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and good will among men."

Amen, Amen, Amen.
